FEATURE QUEST

Dramatic Solutions.tv are looking for writers to work with on feature-length drama and documentary ideas. We are in the early stages of developing relationships with writers with the goal of taking work into eventual production and release. This is not a funded project but rather one in which we will input time and energy in order to take work towards that level. It is therefore a longer-term venture.

We are searching for great drama scripts that have been written to at least first full draft level, or feature-length documentary treatments that have been fully structurally developed.

Genre is open and we are looking for work that will appeal to a wide market.

Phase One:

Submissions and Selection. We have the resources to work with and push a maximum of 5 ideas in total.

We are receiving submissions now and will start to look at applications on receipt. The final deadline is October 31st. Up to 3 decisions may be made sooner depending on the volume and quality of treatments received. We therefore encourage early submission if you have existing ideas that are ready for consideration.

Phase Two:

Development. We will work with the selected collaborators with the intention of developing the work to a level where we can begin to pursue financing options.

The development process will involve;

Appropriate script / idea development with flexible input from us designed in close collaboration with and the full involvement of the writer. Activities might range, for example, from an exploration of character, narrative and structure in conjunction with a director, producer or writer, through to adaptation for screen realisation, or, for example, the organisation of workshop readings.

Phase Three:

Push. This phase will be all about getting the project off the ground. It will involve looking for backing, getting supporting bodies involved with individual projects, putting together potential production teams and partnering with other organisations. The 3-5 ideas that we are working with will all be pushed to maximise the chances of getting 1 or more projects to the production stage.

ASSESMENT CRITERIA:

Submissions will be assessed in the following areas:

  1. Quality of the idea:

Central conceit, sustained interest created by the narrative through-line, appealing setting and context, strength of characterisation

  1. Strength of Proposition:

Appeal to target audience and investors based on Return on Investment potential

  1. Viability:

The feature idea must be achievable. We will therefore give strong consideration to the logistics and practicalities involved in script realisation. We encourage the submission of imaginative projects and do not wish to limit the possibilities. At the same time, it is important to consider areas such as locations and number of sets (real or virtual) required, cast size, period and special effects.

WRITER PROFILE:

We are looking for someone who:

  1. is open to collaboration, has strong ideas but with a flexible approach

  2. has knowledge of the craft, demonstrable skills and experience as a writer (either for screen or in another art form.)

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

As a small company our resources are focused on current projects, developing the business and forming productive relationships. We are therefore looking only for the following in this initial selection process:

  1. A  25-30 word summary of the idea designed to engage the audience

  1. A one page treatment

  1. A one page example of dialogue (for drama ideas)

  1. A one page CV or Biog

All Submissions must be made by email only. (This is for easier, more economical and environmentally friendly distribution between assessors)

Please send your submission in as a single Word document or PDF. Please title the document “IdeaTitle-YourName”

Full scripts can be included but are not required at this stage and are unlikely to be read until shortlisted. If your idea is shortlisted, we would request a full script.

RIGHTS:

Scripts will not be distributed beyond the company or individuals involved in selection or development without express permission of the writer. There will be no binding relationship either way in the early stages of selection and initial development. If agreement is made for more serious investment of time or resources by us, we would look to agreeing a mutually acceptable time-limited option on selected projects. There are currently no fees available for this. Any fees will be subject to our securing some level of interest or development backing.

WHERE TO SEND:

Please send all submissions to: anna@dramaticsolutions.tv

with featurequest as the subject.

Many thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.
